Greywacke statue of king Mykerinus and his queen Khamerernebty
This statue is two-thirds life-size and shows the height of Old Kingdom stone craftsmenship. The king is making a step forward, indicating an active position. This active position can be seen throughout all Old Kingdom statues of men and pharaohs. Women on the other hand are usually in an inactive position; standing still, with both feet close together. However, the pharaoh is sharing his royal powers with his wife, allowing her to also stand in an active position. The couple is shown in an embrace, which shows the Egyptian ideal of man and women.
